Blog #84: Labor Day & Doorbuster Sales

With the endless Olympic “beach volleyball” mercifully ended without even one teensy, weensy bikini malfunctioning, and the insane mortal combat of the NFL gladiator-style “entertainment” about to begin, we arrive at another exciting “sales event” Labor Day. Reviewing our Blog #39, Labor Day, 2015, we note that not a great deal has changed since last year. The presidential campaigns are bringing new, improved meaning to the grand old term, “mudslinging,” as the devolution of our good old U.S.ofA. continues apace toward third world status!

Last week marked the 71st Anniversary of the signing of the Japanese Surrender, officially ending World War II. On the 18th of June 1940, after some 330,000 Allied Forces were evacuated from Dunkirk (permitted in part by a German military judgmental error delaying their forces’ advance), Winston Churchill delivered his famous speech to the British Parliament, concluding with the peroration, “Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, This was their finest hour.”

Another year and one-half passed before our good old U.S.ofA. joined the fight, and then, only after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. While, obviously, we played a major role in winning WWII, and our soldiers fought magnificently in Europe and the Pacific, our homeland was never invaded by a foreign military, and we were able to build an amazing industrial base, leading to our emergence as a major economic force. Our soldiers, as old pap and I pointed out back in Blog #18, Our Military and Defense Industry, were ingloriously dubbed, “GI’s,” short for Government Issue. The ridiculous and ugly term, “Warriors” wouldn’t be coined until our current media and Military/Industrial Complex ignoramuses got poor old Georgie to champion “making the world safe for Democracy.”

Please, if you have time, go back and read, or re-read our Blogs #18 – Our Military & “Defense” Industry, and #26 and #39 (Past Labor Days), where we spoke of real U. S. “Exceptionalism,” and what we consider our own “Finest Hour” (The Post-WWII Marshall Plan and Asian Recovery Aid).

Thanks for caring about our good old U.S.ofA., and our Dear Old Mother Earth, Buster and (cough, cough) old pap.
